Babbel for Android!

After just a few delays, Babbel is available in the Google Play Store as an Android app!

Babbel Android was one of our users’ most common requests, and we are delighted to finally make this dream come true. Now all of you out there with Android devices no longer have to wait to take advantage mobile learning with Babbel. We’d like to give a big thank you again to our beta testers, whose feedback had a direct impact on improving the app. We’re super happy with the results and we hope you’ll have a lot of fun with the new apps and learn a lot, too!

What can the Babbel app for Android do?
The app includes the Basic and Advanced Vocabulary with 2000-3000 words for each learning language. As usual, all vocabulary packages are organized by topic and presented audio-visually (spoken out loud by native speakers and illustrated with pictures). You can decide which themes interest you the most, and get started right away.

We’ve also optimized out speech recognition software and integrated it into the Android apps. It will now be even more effective in analyzing your pronunciation and helping you practice. Of course, the popular review manager is also on board—presenting you words you’ve learned for review in ideal intervals, so that what you’ve studied permanently embeds itself in you long-term memory. You don’t need a constant internet connection for the Babbel apps, so you can study vocabulary easily and flexibly—at home or on the go.

How much do the Babbel Android apps cost?
The Android apps are completely free for all eleven languages and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The first lesson from every category is ready to be studied right after download. To download additional vocabulary packages and use the intelligent review manager, you’ll need a free Babbel account, which you can sign up for directly on the app. If you already have a Babbel account, then you can simply log into the app, download everything you’d like to learn and go.

Should I expect ads in the app, since it’s free?

No. You shouldn’t be distracted by advertising. Babbel remains, as always, an ad-free premium product.

What’s next?

Those of you who are familiar with Babbel know that the Basic and Advanced Vocabulary is just a small part of what Babbel has to offer. Product innovation and product development are still dominant themes at Babbel. The Mobile Team has already begun with the development of new apps that will bring more features and courses to mobile devices. Our Content Team is also busy working on new lessons and courses. Very promising!

I was so glad to hear about this app, and of course I downloaded it immediately…
But on my HTC desire, it doesn’t work at this moment.
When I click on ‘Review Manager’, I get a small window telling me ‘receive learned vocabulary’. Once that it completely, I shortly see a window telling me ‘load data’, and than the screen goes black and I go back to the screen with ‘vocabulary’, ‘review manager’ and ‘Other apps’. When I try the review manager again, the same proces repeats. In the background, greyed out, I see ‘Review now! You should repeat 1 of 550 items’
Indeed, 1 was the number of items I had to repeat today, but my vocabulary consist of 1339 words… (550 or 1139… I can’t repeat anyone of them….)

Hello Anne,

I’ve talked to the mobile team and our developers were able to reproduce and fix this error. It should be resolved with the next update!
Regarding your vocabulary, the reason is that the mobile version of the review manager currently only counts single words, while the web-version includes phrases and sayings as well.

Might you have further posts just like this particular 1 named, Babbel for Android!

| The Babbel Blog? I actually wish to read through even a
lot more regarding it. Many thanks.

Hi,
Just started using the app as im a subscriber on the computer version of Spanish babbel; this says that as a subscriber I should get all the content free? I am able to review 9 items and then once that is completed it says to ‘unlock full features visit website or send an email to my address’ I’ve tried to do this but am not receiving any emails and I can’t find anything on the website. How do I get full access? Many thanks

Is there any news regarding the “Whats next?” section of this blog post? I know that the iPad version does provide full access to the courses etc.
Unfortunately the Android app has not been updated at all. That is kind of surprising if you have a look at the worldwide market-share of Android compared to iOS.

How far is the development of the Android App?

Also eagerly waiting for the Android version. You’d have a premium subscriber straight away as far as I’m concerned. Would be nice to have widgets in the app too. Good work!

Hi guys
I love the German app but unfortunately, despite making an account, I can’t download all of the content (it says download timed out and doesn’t go past 0/100 downloads)
Any info to fix this would be much appreciated!

Hi Ryan,
Android versions older than 2.3.5 are not supported by the Babbel app. Therefore, please check your Android version via the following on your device: “Settings” => “”About phone” => “Android version”
Let me know if that helps!

Hi, I have downloaded the free android app, and would love to become a suscriber, however I would need to have full access via an app. Is this going to be happening in the near future? and if so, will everything be available offline? Thanks

It says an error has occurred downloading from babbel.com

JAL.

Hi Jose,

thank you for your message. On what phone have you been downloading the courses and what language? If you have problems installing your app, our support team is happy to help, write an e-mail to support@babbel.com

I have also had problems downloading additional vocabulary (Babbel Spanish for Kindle Fire).

I was able to download all vocabulary listed under “most important 100 words”, but the download fails when I attempt to download any additional content for the remaining categories.

I get an error popup, all it does is confirm the error and give the name of the package it was attempting to download.

I am able synchronize with the Babbel website to review vocabulary – the problem appears only with new downloads.

Hi, I love this app, had an unexpexted invitation to France in a few weeks, so trying to learn enough frech to get by in a short time, and this is perfect. It is on my Nexus 7. Only trouble is, I just downloaded the rest of the volcabulary for food and drink and the programme just flashes on and off continually. I already have the app for Portugese (going in October, so stopped using for now) which gives no trouble. How can I stop this continual flashing, because I’m really dissapointed that I can’t use the app.
Chrissy

Hello!
I have purchased 3 months online French Courses and certainly plan to purchase more. You have a fantastic service with ease and instant results. I have also downloaded the app to accompany me when I’m on the go. However, every attempt to download any of the packages under any category results in the same error: (after 5-6 sec’s wait time): DOWNLOAD FAILED The Operation Timed Out,. I have attempted these downloads while using my WIFI and while on my wireless network and with the same issue. Here are all the spec’s I can think of as being relative in hopes of a prompt resolve.

Using a Samsung HTC Hero ANDROID
Wireless Provider is Telus (Canada)

Thank you in advance for your time and efforts.
Warmest Regards,
Connie
